And why is that? These two positions are more similar than it might at first appear. Their fundamental commonality is an a priori rejection of the reality of choice. Of course, one can point out that since the basis for all a priori presumption is choice, such axioms are of necessity self-contradictory.

But chaos and fate have wide appeal because both apparently absolve us of choice and responsibility. Such is the power of choice that we can choose to believe we have no choice.

Unless we do not.
