Hi all; Administration begins to waffle on WMDs:

Powell: Possible Iraq May Have Had No WMD
Yahoo, January 24, 2003

I wonder when they will begin to waffle on the question of ending the war in Iraq. Five of our guys were KIA today, and we keep on losing helicopters at a very worrying rate.

We lost 18 KIA in Mogadishu on the "Blackhawk Down" battle, plus more in the months preceding. We're achieving the equivalent of a Somalia fiasco at a rate of about once or twice a month now.

I rented "Blackhawk Down" the other day. The book is a lot better in that it is much more complete. Early in the movie the US captures a Somali gun runner. He's interviewed by a US officer. He tells the officer that his people will simply keep shooting until the US leaves Somalia.

We are in a similar situation in Iraq, in that the locals are shooting at us now, and we have no way to get them to stop. The war will last until we realize that it is outside our power to "fix" Iraq. Right now I'm not optimistic that this will happen soon.
