you know what lurqer ... reading stuff the likes of which friedman spews simply enables him. i don't even like to read what those who are reporting what he writes write. that there are so many people with shallow ignorant little minds in positions to influence people who don't think, perhaps cannot comprehend, but who simply react, like pavlov graduates, is mind boggling and depressing. thank goodness there are credible people like mcnamara and paul o'neil who speak up and that there are organizations like the common dreams news centre and journalists like ira chernus, who plod on and try to enlighten the masses. but the propaganda machine is so huge. i remember as a child hearing my father decry the propaganda being dispersed in the soviet union and thinking, 'oh, those poor people. they don't have a chance!' i still think that, but with americans in mind. -rose
