property taxes are out of control in texas. When you buy a house, you have to make sure you aren't in a "robin hood" district where your taxes pay for your own schools plus other poorer districts. Not that spreading the wealth is bad, its just the way they do it is so unfair, you can move across the street and you aren't RH anymore and taxes go down a huge %.

Most states with no sales tax or income tax have high property taxes I find. Its always one or the other. Oregon another one, huge property taxes. California has low property taxes with almost no reasess. If you are a long time homeowner- you are MUCH better off in CA than TX. TX has 8.x% sales tax also. I have lived in both states CA and TX.
