Know what I've noticed? The spending on education has increased steadily ever since Federal Aid to Education (signed by Eisenhower and passed by a Republican Congress) in the late 1950s. And the quality of education has decreased steadily.

Sadly, you are correct. If I had to blame it on one single thing it would be THE TEACHERS UNIONS. I had two aunts who were HS teachers. Both started in the 1920's era. Both taught up into the early 60's and saw the advent of the teachers union and their growth in power. Both were AGHAST at what was happening and predicted even then this result. Personally, I believe its a different animal that goes into teaching today. Yes, there are always exceptions, but IMHO not the best BUT THE LEAST BEST select teaching. Why?
a. Cause its relatively an easy course in college. Dont tell me it isnt, I WAS THERE. People started in Bus. Admin and if they flunked they dropped to teaching (as an example)
b. The lure of a 3 month vacation PAID (teachers salaries are annualized and they get the same pay all year long).
c. Salaries are now on par with most other professions especially those that dont require an incredible amount of expertise.
What caused this change in mindset? I think its principally the teachers unions. jdn
