Lizzie:

My brother in law from New Hampshire (no income tax, limited sales tax) always complains about his property tax (and he is the 1st selectman in his town). We just discussed this @ Christmas and he pays about $1k more than I do (9 vs 8k).

Now I don't know what they are valuing his house (over 3500 sq ft, separate barn to store a few of his antique cars) and I think its 25 acres of land versus my 2,500 sq ft on 1 acre in CT but I do pay a 5% income and 6% sales tax.

CA does have a high property tax. Your focusing on the limits to re assessing valuations on homeowners. Look @ the adverse impact to businesses or the inequity between new homeowners versus the law which is a disincentive to sell.

Another screwed up CA item and one of the underlying factors CA will not see job growth. All new non service to CA related jobs will be outsourced to other locals.
