He's changed his views on the subject, but unlike most analysts, as far as the existence of WMDs in Iraq, he was right on.
Oh great... big deal... like a stopped clock, he's right twice a day...
And all he has to do to gain YOUR trust is to make a complete reversal of his assertions that Iraq was definitely non-compliant, suddenly claim that Iraq NOW has no WMDs based upon NO SUBSEQUENT INSPECTIONS or EVIDENCE, and soliciting sex from teenage girks on the internet....
But what I find to be hilarious is that all through the 5 years between 1998 and 2002 Ritter was not required to present any evidence of Iraq's sudden compliance with its disarmament obligations...
And he certainly didn't have to provide any evidence to justify his "conversion" from a WMD "town criar" to a "pundit denier"...
It seems rather strange that someone like he can change his extremely hawkish opinions based upon actual inspection activities, and within the space of a year or two, suddenly making unfounded assertions that he can't substantiat about Iraq having destroyed all of it's weapons..
Yet you're haranguing Bush because you allege he sent this country to war in Iraq based upon lies and fabricated evidence, in asserting his belief that Iraq had WMDs at the time...
Despite the fact that Ritter cited in 1998 essentially the same evidence that the Bush administration had been citing...
So it would seem that only person who actually can be called a "credible source" about the true status of Iraq's WMD program is Saddam Hussein.
And he apparently had a vested in maintaining an ambiguous perception about what he did, or didn't, have...
The question of whether or not the US can be supported by a policy of deliberate lies has nothing to do with the UN at all.
The hell it doesn't... UNSC 1441 provided the final casus belli against Iraq and declared it in material breach of its obligations to disarm.. The UNSC effectively declared the same things that Bush declared, and demanded that Saddam come into compliance. And it made this determination primarily based upon where the inspection status terminated in 1998 (with 6,000 unaccounted for WMDs).
The simple fact is that the US is a nation based on the recognition of truth, not the fabrication of lies.
And as I remember, the UN was responsible for the inspections, and thus, the credibility of the evidence underlying every UNSC binding resolution referring to Iraq...
So you might have some kind of urgent desire to exonerate the UNSC from responsibility for issuing "lies" and false perceptions, focusing all the responsibility upon Bush, but I am not..
