ZettaCore raises $17.5M

denver.bizjournals.com

Denver-based ZettaCore Inc. announced it raised $17.5 million in Series B financing in a round led by Menlo Park, Calif.-based venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

The funding of the nanotechnology company, which develops molecular memory technology and products for current and next-generation semiconductors, was joined by previous investors Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Radius Ventures, Oxford Biosciences, Access Ventures, Garrett Capital and Stanford University.

"We have looked at many ventures in nanotechnology, but have found only a few that address very large markets and even fewer that have demonstrated a pragmatic path to realization and scale manufacturing," said Vinod Khosla, general partner of Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers -- who also has joined the ZettaCore board of directors -- in a statement. "ZettaCore fits these criteria uniquely."

The Series B financing brings ZettaCore's total funding to $23 million.

ZettaCore President and CEO Randy Levine said the funds will be used to expand the company's staff and facilities and commercialize the first generation of molecular memory technology.
