But getting back to the imagery of the "Tree & the Garden"...what do you possibly think the interpretation of that metaphor is ? Kierkegaard (Becker and Brown in modern times) connects the story with our consciousness of individuality and mortality (from "you shall surely die"): the punishment of this higher evolutionary status is the awareness of our impending death. Now for our part we develop character traits and modes of coping which repress the terror of this awareness so that we can live our daily lives. But this awareness potentially also connects us to "spirituality" and our relationship to God, at least when our repressions and denials do not completely close us off from the possibility of God and self-awareness. Repressions and denial pre-occupy us with other distractions, duty fulfillments, roll-playings, etc. that keep our minds occupied. On the subject of "the Christ" I believe that is a through- going Hebraic concept. The "annointed one" goes way back to King David and beyond. Christ is a greek word, but has almost no interpretative help from Greek ideas or literature. I'd like to see references or links if you have them, though. TIA
