sounds like a good ruling overall, it is widely known that there are numerous cases of manipulation by shorts in small stocks, though of course there are at least as many cases of manipulation to the upside, which it could be argued are just as damaging overall, since someone gets stuck holding the bag on the overpriced shares bought at the peak of the hype

along the same lines, i don't think short selling should be abolished completely....if you abolished short selling on the grounds that some short sellers are dishonest and circulate inaccurate information on companies to benefit their own positions, you would have to ban long positions as well

i find it comical that the new ruling still has a loophole for market makers, so that they can maintain "bona fide market making activities"...that has to go on the list of all time oxymorons <g>
