Only if you hold the movie as the ultimate authority on that subject. The first time I was aware of the controversy was in a history class last semester. The subject of the movie came up and I mentioned about the Latin and Aramaic languages being used. The prof looked at me amazed and asked why in the world would they speak Latin? Greek was the language of the area at that time. I looked back at her with equal amazement and asked, do you mean the Romans didn't speak Latin? This wasn't her subject so she said she'd look into it but I never got satisfactory closure to the problem.
