Having read a number of Iraqi bloggers, including Salam Pax and Riverbend, spouting a line that goes something like this, "you (United States) broke it, you fix it," I hold little hope that they're actually going to get off their asses and do something to improve their own country.

Perhaps this is the down side of believing that "it's all about oil" - when we actually hand the country over to the people who are working towards setting up a new government, and say "goodbye and good luck," maybe then they'll finally believe otherwise, but I honestly fear it will be too late.

In other words, they can't imagine that we'd actually leave them to Chalabi and the Shia Mullahs. I wish it weren't true myself, but what alternative are the educated but disaffected Iraqis presenting?
