The religious right has to be defeated somewhere in the south. That will begin breaking their stranglehold. See who runs Bush's southern strategy, Ralph Reed the former head of the religious Right. He was also an Enron employee as was Ed Gillespie head of the RNC. The GOP is terified that with someone like Edwrads the Dems may once again crack the south. All it takes is one state plus New Hampshire to insure victory. Kerry can take NH from Bush with his 80% approval rating there.
