Personally I don't believe that tolerance was that high on Jesus's wish list, and the Biblical God certainly wasn't terribly tolerant.

If you think about it, Jesus's whole point was NON-tolerance. There is but one way to God, and it is through Him. So, in effect He was saying that to tolerate opposing viewpoints was to imperil your immortal soul.
