FONAR Sells 63rd Stand-Up MRI to Be Showcase Scanner at New State-of-the-Art Radiology Center; Third Purchase for Rose Radiology in Metro Tampa, Florida

MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--01/26/2004--FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ:FONR), The MRI Specialist(TM), announced today that Rose Radiology has purchased its third FONAR Stand-Up(TM) MRI for the metro-Tampa area, bringing FONAR's total number of Stand-Up(TM) MRI sales to 63. The Stand-Up(TM) MRI will be the centerpiece of Rose Radiology of Sarasota, a state-of-the-art radiology facility located in a new medical office park in Sarasota, Florida. The facility will include 16-slice CT, X-ray, mammography, PET, C-arm fluroscopy and ultrasound.

Rose Radiology Centers is owned by Manuel S. Rose, M.D., a highly regarded, board-certified diagnostic radiologist in the Tampa area. Rose Radiology's first Stand-Up(TM) MRI, the first in Florida, is operating in Palm Harbor; the second is in nearby Brandon.

Dr. Rose said, "The new Sarasota center will be the most advanced radiology center on the West Coast of Florida, with the Stand-Up(TM) MRI its most revolutionary component. I'm a strong advocate of the FONAR Stand-Up(TM) MRI because it's the only MRI scanner on the market that allows for the evaluation of the spine under normal, weight-bearing positions as well as in positions of flexion and extension. We have high-field recumbent MRIs, but when it comes to the spine, we rely heavily on the Stand-Up(TM) MRI. In fact, we've diagnosed spinal pathology on the Stand-Up(TM) MRI that was mischaracterized or missed entirely on conventional, recumbent MRIs. Our referring physicians appreciate the unique abilities of the Stand-Up(TM) MRI because they naturally want the most accurate diagnosis of their patients' problems. As far as I'm concerned, the Stand-Up(TM) MRI is an absolute necessity for spine work. Approximately 60% of our MRI business is spine studies, so the Stand-Up(TM) MRI is an extremely important part of my practice."

"As far as the patients are concerned," continued Dr. Rose, "they overwhelmingly prefer the Stand-Up(TM) MRI to any others. It's very comfortable and uncommonly quiet. In fact, 85% of our patients sit and watch TV for the duration of their scans. Patients rarely suffers any anxiety due to claustrophobia. I rate the Stand-Up(TM) MRI the best Open MRI in the industry."
