I definitely agree. I think we can prepare for such time bombs, and also take whatever steps are needed to minimize the risk. However, I think it's also wise to acknowledge that we're creating quite a number of serious risks simply through certain choices we are making as far as technology, economics, productivity, etc... are concerned.

Despite precautions, I fully expect that, at some point, humanity will have to deal with some kind of biological catastrophe -- possibly something spawned in a bio-weapons lab somewhere -- possibly even accidentally unleashed. That said, as someone who tends to be fairly pragmatic about nature and humanity's importance to the web of life, I admit to being relatively unconcerned about outcomes.
