The only logical suitor would be GE Capital, they were a major player in CCP 1, Conseco's first acquisition partnership. They made 30%+ per year on their money, then started doing the same thing themselvs. Times have changed since then. I do not see Conseco selling out! at least not any time soon! Mr. Hilberts life style is such that the Jet, the helicopter etc.etc. that are Conseco perks are part of him. His salary is structured such that he gets 3% of pre tax profits, fine when you are a small co. like they were 10-15 years ago, obscene now!!
He has created billions of wealth for investors, so nobody says much, but that type of compesation would not fly with any suitor. He is talking up the price of the stock!, the jest of interview goes back to the 15% internal growth that wall street does not believe(I personaly think that is a done issue). They must be getting close to being finished with their 4MM share purchase, I will see what I can find out. Also both Merrill Lynch and Smith Barney (also Morgan/Witter) are to start or restart analyst coverage in Sept. (or Oct-Nov.). This stock will be 50 by the end of 97, 65 by the end of 98.
