I'm not terribly concerned myself. Almost everything (or perhaps everything) ends, and so will humanity- I'm not sure it matters that much when it ends.
Well, I have to say that a lightening up of the human footprint certainly wouldn't be considered such a bad thing by most of the other species that are attempting to continue to exist on the earth. (-:
That said, in terms of our national priorities - we could have a little sense of proportion when evaluating the various risks, and spend on them accordingly.
Interesting to me is that very lack of sense of proportion. The "war on terror" seems to be just another expression of paranoia in a society obsessed with controlling everything around it -- terrorists, germs, nature, etc... The surprise and indignation that it expresses when mosquitoes, viruses, people of other countries, etc.. "misbehave" would actually be quite laughable if it weren't so pathetic. The same goes for people stocking up on duct tape, plastic sheeting, food, water and biohazard suits. Very sad to see humans reduced to behaving much like a pack of sparrows freaking out over every shadow around a bird feeder. |
