Hi everyone.

I just read an interesting analysis of the recent burst of capital spending by Merrill Lynch's chief economist. He was analyzing the effect that the depreciation law change was having. The gist of the analysis was that the accelerated depreciation allowed on capital equipment purchased before the end of 2004 was having a large impact on spending but might "steal" spending from 2005 after it expires.

To the extent that this is helping the IT spending, which he thinks it is, this might result in a mini Y2K type situation.
