Yogizuna,
Walmart is changing the face of small town USA. That's the most negative effect when one of their new stores opens. Within a couple yrs most of the small neighborhood stores have shut down because they can't compete with WMT's slave-wage produced goods. The huge ugly megastore shell sits on outskirts of community & even with both parents working there, they struggle to support their family on the low wages.
The WMT organization also pushes for tax abatement incentives from these rural areas. Their local taxes are forgiven for 10-12yrs for the mammoth distribution centers. As a result, those same local employees usually find their taxbill has increased.
Hopefully this megastore trend has started to slowdown since it spreads a boring homogenous atmosphere to the once unique, charming towns.
