While the Centrino has clearly done well for Intel the jury is still very much out for the Opteron. It may be the "company defining product" by default because there is not much else.

Yeah thats true. But imo you are comparing apples and oranges. I am not trying to say that AMD is a better *company* than Intel, just that AMD walked away with Intel's most lucrative market, with a purely engineering approach (no marketing) at a time when Intel was busy bashing US engineers and complaining about California taxes.

There is a fair amount of irony in that, imho.
