Well according to Steven Roach, you are wrong.
The fact of the matter is this. We have HUGE productivity numbers that appear unsustainable and false. We have a HUGE GDP which looks way off based on any anecdotal evidence. We have **massive** offshoring in the new areas of software technology, communications and aircraft manufacturing, among others where literally 40% of engineering positions are gone in these areas, and a jobs report which clearly shows job loss.
During all of this, the white house claims the jobs report is **wrong** and is looking to the "household employment" indicator as if all these offshored professionals voluntarily made the decision to hang around at home and trade stocks as "independent consultants".
You have to ask yourself, is this white house just unaware of the massive professional jobs problem or are they trying to sweep it under the rug because it goes against their supply side views? I suspect the latter and I am also quite certain this unless addressed immediately, this will kill Bush in 04.
Plenty of people like me who are not actually in the professional labor market are really disturbed about what is happening here. And these people will give Bush and his supply side loonies the boot in 04.
I suggest reading congress.org under "economy" for the real story on how voters feel.

Neither the White House nor the Democratic candidates have fathomed the depth of anger of the millions whose jobs were offshored/outsourced or lost to corporate plunderers.

Grand Rapids , MI ------------ Subject: The City that Outsources
To: Rep. Rahm Emanuel
January 24, 2004
Dear Rahmn: Years ago Chicago used to be the city that works. Recently major industrial companies have all outsourced their factories to other out of the country places. Brach's Candy, Fannie May Candy, Tempel Steel, Anchor Nut and Bolt Company, Lucent Technologies, and countless small manufacturing concerns have bolted out of Chicago , out of the country in search of cheap labor. Why are they leaving? Because they do not feel they have a responsibility to provide jobs for workers. So, what do we have now? A job crisis in Illinois. We need your support to extend unemployment benefits for the people of Illinois. The Bush administration knows how to pack their pockets full of American tax payers dollars and leave the rest of us in poverty. They know how to grab everything that isn't nailed down and run to international greed hideouts. We need you to stop the hemmoraging of American jobs. Why? Because this country became great because of it's working men and women. Tell me you will help the working men and women of Illinois and the rest of the country by getting a passage of the unemployment extension.
