Dems: Senior RV Benefits Plan 'Inadequate'
Washington DC - Democratic congressional leaders today angrily excoriated the Bush Adminstration's draft proposal to include Winnebago payments under a 2005 Medicare spending bill as "a budgetary slap to the face of America's Greatest Generation."

"Under the draconian Bush plan, America's needy seniors will still be left holding the bag for fully 25% of the costs for their Wayfarers and Coachmen," said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). "And this heartless bill doesn't even begin to address the steep costs seniors face for deluxe velour & woodgrain option packages."

Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) said that congressional Democrats would work with the AARP to construct an alternate Medicare plan that would cover 100% of RV payments, Lladro figurines, and free $5 cash birthday cards for grandchildren.

Spokesman Andrew Card said the Administration was willing to work out differences with the Democrats in committee, adding that they were exploring alternative proposals that "cover KOA electrical hookups, and finally address the skyrocketing costs of bingo daubers and casino buffets."

Card said the administration was also reviewing a cost-cutting measure to combine portions of the Medicare bill with the proposed NASA manned space mission. Under the omnibus spending plan, NASA would construct a casino resort station on Mars.

"If this White House stands for anything, it's fiscal discipline," he added.
