Redfish, re: "If I had my druthers, I would make it a requirement that before a President swears in he has to spend a night at the Vietnam War Memorial."

I suspect Bush would just joke around about how they should have gotten into the Guard and spent some time in Texas. Blame the victim, it's always an easy way out.

I tried to go to the moving wall one time but I couldn't make myself get out of the car. It was late at night but I felt such an overwhelming sense of sadness that I just sat there with tears in my eyes and then I had to leave. Every one of those names brought memories of men groaning and dying in the muted light of triple canopy jungle, the smell of cordite and the sounds of a jungle gone suddenly quiet, and with leaves and twigs dropping from the rounds and the blasts.

It also brought to mind how separated we were from the normalcy of the lives of the men who'd sent us and who marked our death with a simple number that meant next to nothing to them.

Real men, dead forever and all those that loved them left with sadness and a void they could never fill. All for what? I'm still mad as hell about it.
