I do ask myself, however, what would have happened if Bush

(and Greenspan) had combined on the opposite:

Reduced federal spending

A balance budget

Much higher interest rates

A strong USD

Would all this have led to:

Another great depression?

A prolonged fall in the equity markets?

What exactly was Bush supposed to have done?
