Russian economy failed due to lack of incentive. Lack of incentive existed because of the government control.
Right, most americans recognize this and do not want government control of much either. But for example have you ever been to Latin America? Many countries in LA are actually examples of the ultimate in private enterprise, completely unregulated. Latin America at the turn of hte century was quite wealthy. The problem is that early on, a few well placed individuals in say Bolivia squandered all the wealth and hence, there was no middle class. Now, even though Bolivia is not communist, it is technically the same effect as you had in Russia for 99% of the population- NO INCENTIVE. Because if anybody tries to create anything and starts making money, the few rich and powerful will just pummel it or take it over.
This is what happens when you let a few CEOs control entire industries with no checks and balances. Already we are seeing evidence of too much power among these monopoly companies like microsoft and intel who have offshored their labor forces and are still charging high prices and producing inferior product, the US consumer and businesses are stuck. Other governments would *never* allow their companies to act they way microsoft has acted towards the US. In fact, China won't even allow their government entities to use microsoft, they insist on developing their own version of Linux ***IN CHINA***, in order to develop their own software industry. India also refuses to use microsoft software internally, while at the same time microsoft has offshored a substantial portion of R&D to India.
Our government should be treating the US workforce with as much respect as India and China's government. |
