When Congressman McDermott went to Iraq and criticized the president's actions in that country, there were cries of treason

I will say this again, when a congressman goes on an official visit, he is representing the interests, and policies of the US. By going to Iraq, and going public with views anti US policy, he wssn't doing the job he was sent over there for. The US army is having a hard enough time as it is, without guys like that, inciting the rebels to set off more bombs against our troops.

First, his criticisms were anti Bush and not anti US. Secondly, the Congressman's responsibility is to his constituents as well as his country. Thirdly, Congress is supposed to check [in the system of checks and balances]the presidency and that's what he was doing.

Like many Americans, you seem to think that we may disagree with what the president does but in the end, its all good. WRONG!

The president has a lot of power. Power that's legislated and power through his control of the US military. I see my Congressman as my representative in DC to insure that that power is not abused nor the gov't's goals subverted. We've been fortunate so far......most presidents haven't gotten out of control but there is always the first time.

None of the above were treasonous, traitors, unpatriotic or unAmerican acts. In fact, the above people were exercising their rights as citizens of a democracy.

There are times one should be discreet.

That was the attitude of some during the McCarthy Era. IMO that was wrong.......very wrong! When it comes to one's country there is no such thing as being discreet. We are lucky as hell to have the gov't we have...........I do not plan to shut my mouth in the name of decorum because it will make some people happy.

Politics don't belong at Country concerts, nor should congressmen be shooting off their mouth where the enemy can hear them, in order to garner votes.

That's your opinion but I graciously disagree.

That is why I am angry and I will do whatever I can legally to insure that regime change occurs in November.

Get real. You was mad about GWB 6 months before he was elected president, and a full 18 months before the build up to Iraq. All your rant is, is another excuse. If you wouldn't have had people calling you a traitor, you would have made up some other excuse for you ante GW attitudes.

You think I was mad before he was elected. Well, I've got news for you, you ain't seen nothing yet. LOL!
