ECONOMIC REPORT Consumer optimism at 18-month high Conference Board says Americans still fretful about jobs By Rex Nutting, CBS.MarketWatch.com Last Update: 11:59 AM ET Jan. 27, 2004 WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- U.S. consumer confidence rose to an 18-month high in January, but consumers are still nervous about finding or losing their job, the Conference Board reported Tuesday. The board's consumer confidence index rose to 96.8 in January from a revised 91.7 in December. Read the full release.
