Dean did NOT fire Trippi. In fact he still wanted him as the campaign manager. Dean is just getting Neel as a CEO of the campaign and unfortunately Trippi did not want to report to the CEO: "Dean aide Kate O'Conner said the former Vermont governor wanted Roy Neel to take over office operations under the title of chief executive officer. She said Dean asked campaign manager Joe Trippi to stay on as a campaign strategist who also would run the Internet operations, but Trippi quit instead of accepting the demotion. Other officials said Dean asked Trippi to remain as campaign manager, but Trippi believed he couldn't function effectively while reporting to Neel. Either way, Trippi made the decision to go, after several aides and the former governor tried to talk him into staying. " washingtonpost.com
