Yes, Reagan was popular abroad, as was Clinton, but neither as much as JFK. When I was a little kid I went around the world with my parents and still remember the posters of JFK everywhere we went.

People around the world saw JFK as a real symbol of hope, unity and a better future. When he was struck down it was a world-wide tragedy not just an American tragedy. So instead of having peace on earth we had the Vietnam War escalation and more and more years of the Cold War.

In general, the rest of the world does not like right-wingers. They are seen as militaristic and mega-corporate bullies and imperialists. That is why Reagan was not as admired.
