Re: IBD 'comparison' of NT and Apple; semi-on-topic rant
Hi Scott, you knew how to push my button! Plenty of negative things could be (and have been!) said about Apple's management, and an intelligent comparison of NT and MacOS could be interesting (tho' beyond the scope of IBD). But this sloppy journalism burns me up. And it affects perceptions and hence the stock.
"Depending on who you talk to" "analysts say." "(Mac users) are telling me, 'Don't bother buying it.' " "That seemed to some industry watchers..."
"no technological breakthroughs" (Apple) "new innovations" (Microsoft) - a grammar checker? web sites on the desktop? (sounds like, uh, was it Cyberdog? I forget now)
"The cross-licensing agreement could give Apple a crutch" Crutch = is that what they're calling revenues now?
"Apple, however, is struggling with plummeting market share, management turmoil and mounting losses." Uh, I thought losses were decreasing? Correct me if I'm wrong. And has Apple's market share ever been large? (Has BMW's?)
"...Microsoft's Windows NT, a system designed mostly for commercial users that is considered more robust and secure than current Apple systems." Considered by whom?
"And now (Microsoft) seems to be moving operating-system technology forward, although it may be at a more conservative pace than Apple has moved in years past." Reverse distortion is: "Pace of innovation slows at Microsoft".
"No one is talking about getting off Intel and going to a Mac." In reverse: "No one is talking about getting off Mac and going to Windows." (or would that be distortion, hmmm)
Writing good journalism day after day must be hard; maybe after some years a fellow just submits to the urge to write any old thing in order to make a deadline.
Here endeth the rant. Thank goodness I don't have to make a deadline.
