Ann, this discussion is going astray. It is not about wives. Who si talking about Dr. Judy Dean? I have said that she is a very accomplished lady in her own right. And so is Teresa Heinz. Let us get back to the candidates. Edwards is a trial lawyer. NOw a multimillionaire. Say he comes from humble beginnings. A trial lawyer making all that money the American way "by sheer hard work" would be a tough sell. Lawyers are not liked very much in the US. Now whether Edwards personally is a stereotyped lawyer or not is hard to tell. But his having made the millions has "the perception" problem. But please let us keep wives out. Or shall we say spouses because in 2008 who knows it maybe a spouse and not a wife. It could happen even this year during the Democratic convention is Boston is there is no clear winner.
