When the security situation is improved, the UN is not needed. The original purpose of the UN was to improve the security situation.

The UN has never been much at improving the security situation. As Abba Ebban asked after the UN decamped from the Sinai in May 1967, "Of what use is a fire brigade that vanishes at the first sign of smoke and fire?"

Much greater power grows out of a melding of minds - democracy being a fairly good way of determining the mind of the mob - there are a lot more minds than just the 4% of the world who can vote in USA elections.

True. But there is more of a clash going on than between the USA and everybody else. The clash that concerns us is the USA & allies vs. the Tranzies vs. the Islamo-fascists, with everybody else trying to stay out of the cross-fire. Berman is particularly addressing the follies of the Tranzies, who regard the Islamo-fascists with compassionate racism and think that America is the only enemy they need worry about.

We are never going to have a meeting of the minds with the Islamo-fascists. That's a zero-sum game where only one side wins. We're not going to have a meeting of the minds with the Tranzies either, until Berman begins winnig some of his arguments with his ex-colleagues. Then maybe compromise is possible.
