Jeff, it seems entirely consistent to me that China would want to create its own standard for wireless. They've done it before. But I don't think that a version of Wi-Fi would have much impact on QUALCOMM, except for wireless applications within an institutional setting. That is, the new standard might be used within a manufacturing complex, government ministry, or remote institutional setting where other wireless facilities are impractical.

The other reason why I think the impact on QUALCOMM is minimal is the low royalty rate for QUALCOMM, making CDMA technology the lowest cost system for general use. The new standard also suggests to me that maybe TD-SCDMA isn't all it's cracked up to be.
