When I see the UN passing 17 binding resolutions against a corrupt and brutal government, then I'll might have more sympathy towards taking some action..

But right now the major problem with Russia is the lack of legal systems and enforcement that prevent foreign capital from being willing to risk investing in the country..

They will have to resolve the "robber baron" mentality still prevalent there..

That's why I'm still a bit hesitant to criticize Putin too much with regard to clamping down on abusive capitalists and financial elites..

But the jury is still out as to whether he'll be able to accomplish for Russia what some feel Pinochet (brutal as he may have been) did in straightening out Chile's economy.

There's a difference between criticizing a repressive government that does nothing but redirect economic wealth to themselves, and a strong man approach aimed at creating sufficient social order that economic progress can be accomplished.
