I agree with all of the thoughts you posted on the matter..

IMO, the UN has (had?) a chance to restructure itself as a viable entity for the advancement of economic and social justice, rather than the debating society it has presented itself as for the past 30-40 years (at least since the Korean Conflict).

But it isn't likely to happen so long as Kofi Annan, France, and Germany have continue to block such efforts to bring credibility and a sense of will and purpose to the organization.
