<< But, I'd be cautious about Katz's definition of "negative" study, since in his view, p=.06 would be "negative." Some of us might have a more flexible view of what constitutes an indication of efficacy.>>

That a 'interesting' approach to science.

I cannot fathom a single current or former practicing biomedical (or any other flavor) scientist ever contemplating such a perspective. The .05 level is the absolute standard (p<.01 is the gold standard) to deduce that the hypothesis being tested has not been shown false (and that is the precise extent of the definition of the experimental method being discussed here).

The idea that 'some of us' ('us' describing a universe void of any scientist with the absolute minimum of training) may have a more 'flexible' view...this is a truly flabbergasting view of the scientific method. What could you possibly mean by 'flexible'? The only interpretation is 'subjective' i.e. we (the company) really need to show some efficacy so lets relax the confidence levels to achieve our needed ends.

You'd be cautious, '...about Katz' definition of 'negative' study....' ????

Well, I'd be 100% dismissive of your astounding 'flexible' view, and I do indeed find it amusing that you can make pronouncements/judgments of any kind in the neurosciences based on such an incredibly tenuous understanding of the most fundamental pillar of scientific methodology.
