I'm doing much the same thing that you are. I had quite a bit of money in CDs and was satisfied with what I was making when rates were around 7% for a four year CD. Now the going rate for a four year CD is around 3.55% (APY @ MBNA).

If I can pick up that 7% I'm satisfied and if I can get 10 to 12% so much the better.

Of course I'm sticking things out with my funds at Fidelity and Vanguard to come back. Collectively, all my funds at Vanguard are still around 25% below the highs set back a few years ago.

Some might think that setting my sights on 10% isn't realistic and that I should shoot for the moon but I'm 68 and don't know how long I'll be around this big blue marble. If I were 40 then I could afford to play the long time trend which history shows that the trend would be up....ANON
