Recap of January Picks as of end of the month.

The portfolio gained slightly, during the month, as a result of some blowups. End of December it was up about 14.5%. In January it gained another 5% and is up 20% in total. Not unexpectedly, 2 of the stocks blew up, FTUSQ and SMD. Gadzooks is also such a BK candidate and the OTCBB stock, despite trading below cash, did nothing.

The Russel Index closing at 580.76 is up a similar percentage; it gained 4.28% in Jan 2004.

The rebound of skinny cats like NENG, PHAR or VITX did not come unsurprising. Alteon a bit a unlikely gainer but it really sold off in the old year. I think going forward into February I will keep none of those stocks, except possibly DYTK (or its preferred stock, DYTKP) and perhaps CGZT. SMD and Gadzooks could be possible terminal but a tough short at such low prices.

TSCC a stock near cash, but earnings or the lack of in february, the stock not acting well in advance. Revlon was also a significant gainer, one I omitted in real portfolio as for a possible BK.

All said the stocks traded very cheap for a reason. They are possibly worth not very much.
