Environmentalists ( and I use that term very loosely) have been screaming for alternative fuel solutions for years. Now that a republican president is calling for more spending to fund those alternatives they whine about the costs. When will they learn that you can't have it both ways. That you can't demand more government and expect spending to stay the same. I guess it depends on who it is that is doing the asking...

I believe congress should pass legislation that demands better fuel efficiency for ALL vehicles, including heavy trucks and buses. Where are the "environmentalists" when it comes to those kinds of vehicles. Why stop with SUVs, pick-ups and minivans? The technology to achieve better fuel efficiency is attainable.

However, many environmental groups say that is too long and believe U.S. oil imports could be reduced quicker if the government significantly boosted the mileage requirements for new gas-guzzling SUVs, pick-up trucks and minivans.
