It does tend to promote a classist society. And democracy is impossible with an undereducated populace. The privatization of education would be a break with American tradition of 200+ years involving universal public education. If public roads are decrepit, I think the answer is to fix the public roads and not replace them with private roads. Education is just another form of infrastructure that is essential to the smooth operation of our nation, IMO, and its treatment should be similarly circumspect.
