Who cares about Jane Fonda? You've been listening to too much Rush Limbaugh. The Republicans will try to run against Teddy Kennedy, Jane Fonda and Hillary Clinton. But guess what? They're not running. John Kerry is and that terrified the GOP. That's why they'll try to change the subject and bring up lightning rods like Jane Fonda. Kerry was never a radical like Fonda. He was a returning war hero with brass balls to stand up to the Imperial Nixon White House and make people pay attention. Why? To save the lives of his brothers in arms. That was his only reason. If he had to illustrate how mad and crazy it was in the jungle of Nam by talking about atrocities, so be it. The people needed to hear the truth not the DOD spin with their John Wayne myths and inflated everyday body counts. The reality of Nam was that it drove even good men crazy after awhile. There was no clear mission. There was no clear enemy. And everything came unglued. Oliver Stone's "Platoon" scene was based on factual events and was realistic. The reason the film won the Oscar was that is was very realistic. Also symbolic. In fact the figures of Barnes and Elias accurately symbolize the American fight between right-wing hardliners and liberal free spirits. This country is just as divided as ever. John Kerry can help narrow that divide. Bush promised to but widened it instead by acting like a right-wing dictator once he took power (influenced by Cheney I'm sure). This time around people won't believe his "compassionate conservative" BS, or that he cares about education, working people or the environment. This time around Bush will be held accountable. Kery on the other hand will move to the center and stay there. He wants to join forces with leaders like McCain and get things done. To do that though and succeed, he will have to overwhelm the corrupt Delay congress and the hardline neocons. That is something this country needs done in the worst way. Then maybe we can get back to the good old fashioned spirit of bi-partisanship, or at least have a lot more than we have now. Lots of entrenched rich and ruthless special interests though so it won't be easy.
