However it was not the truth--that's why many of his fellow veterans do not support Kerry's candidacy.

"Very realistic" is not good enough when you're dealing with a historical event. That's the problem with Oliver Stone. He more than once admitted that he enjoys taking "creative license" with historical facts in order to juice up a movie. When that happens, the film becomes political propaganda which is exactly what "Platoon" and "JFK"(exact title?) were at the time.
