Ted Re..First and foremost, the link to al Qaeda was given as the reason to attack not that saddam gave out $25k stipends.

Which is far different than what you said and Tench was responding to. Here is your statement.

Ted, There is absolutely no evidence that he was "a well known supporter of terrorism".

Precisely where in there do you say anything about Al Qaeda. Your statement Tench was responding to is a flat out lie. Saddam ruled through terrorism, and supported many terrorist groups. Al Qaeda may or may not be one of them, but to say there is no connection between Saddam and terrorism is a flat out lie, and you know it.

Too many in the ME give out stipends to the suicide bombers. Are we to start a war with all of them?

If that is what it takes, to get them to stop, then we might have to. The point is, you have to start somewhere. Saddam was as good of a place to start as any, because, he didn't have any support amongst other arabs. The others will be tougher, and could mend their ways, making regime change there unnecessary. If you think things can't change, read this

Headline: Muslims asked to crush terror: Two million faithful perform Haj -- Detail Story

PLAIN OF ARAFAT, Jan 31: Saudi Arabia's grand Mufti said terror and violence must be mercilessly crushed and urged women to be modest and adhere to Islam's values in a special Haj sermon on Saturday.

"Islam has forbidden violence in all its forms; it has forbidden hijacking aeroplanes, ships and other means of transport and has forbidden all acts that would undermine security," said Sheikh Abdul Aziz al-Sheikh at Namirah mosque on the Plain of Arafat, the site of Prophet Muhammad's (pbuh) last sermon 14 centuries ago.

"Allah says the penalty of those that fight Allah and his prophet and spread violence and terror is to be killed, crucified or have their hands and legs chopped off.

"Islam has also called for the killing of anyone who attempts to undermine legitimate rulers or divide Muslims," he said.

The Mufti then questioned why "Islam is branded by some as the religion of terror given its strong opposition to terror.

"You must know of Islam's firm stance against all these terrible crimes that are attributed to it."

The Mufti urged millions of pilgrims and prayer-goers gathered inside and outside the mosque to "praise the leaders of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia who are providing us with peace and security."

..................................................

Now the head cleric of Wahhabbism, ordered his followers to stop the violence, hijacking etc in Islam's name, and the"killing of anyone who attempts to undermine legitimate rulers or divide Muslims," Isn't he talking about Al Qaeda? Just how long do you think OBL will last, if most of the Wahhabbi clerics follow the head clerics edict. And it will undermine Nayef's legitimacy in giving money to the terrorists. The US just may have forced the clerics to say uncle first.

The reason you don't find those "facts" in the mainstream press is because they are not facts. They are allegations that usually don't pan out.

Yeah right. Since when have the BBS and CNN let facts stand in the way? The reason you don't see a lot of those stories in European press is they weren't anti GW or Blair; the same reason neither you or Al, don't want to see them posted here either.
