The real news in the war against terrorism comes from MacDill Air Force Base in Florida, where the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) has been given the green light for organizing and mounting its own counter-terrorism operations around the world, and received a major increase in manpower and budget to make that happen. The increase in Special Forces end strength was already approved as was the budget increase. The increase in volunteer trainees is up slightly as is attendance at SF Schools. Currently it takes 3-5 years to get a man fully qualified to assume a significant role on an A team...so these folks are not going to be ready by spring. I think we can presume a cut-back in other SF Ops to provide the personnel to support the spring offensive. BTW announcing an OP this far in advance is extremely unusual, probably intended to get some folks on the move where they may be easier to see. I could even believe the offensive is already underway. uw
