sandintoes, Look at the record of the churches in North America. There was a perfectly good set of letters in the English language. If the native spoken language had been placed phonetically into standard English letters, you might have needed a couple of added accents, French style, but their books could have been printed on any printers letter set. They could have been read aloud by any English speaker(but not understaood) and at the same time the Natives would also learn English, or French in the French areas. This would have made a huge difference in the continuing viability of amerind languages. As it stands, they are little spoken among the natives any more, English(French in some areas) having had it's way.
It was stated by the churches in the 1700's that this was their reason for making these new letter sets, for the pure reason of spiritual and intellectual control. I lay most of our problems in native ares to the churches. Not that the French, British and American politicians were much better. All seemed to look at the natives as fodder for whatever they were doing, warring or preaching.
Why? The Churches created a totally artifial letter set with no commonality to any English letter, although the phonetic sounds were the same) for the sole purpose of being the only people who could print their books for them, so they could control their source of reading material. It also turned out that the churches wanted to keep the native schools as places where they could practice buggery on the native boys, as has been evidenced by the enormous number of lawsuits against all the established churches. These lawsuits have essentially bankrupted these churches, who are now both financially as well as morally bankrupt.
The microscopic good done by the church has been sunken into the deepest abyss by the amassed harm they have done.
Soul?, You want to have a soul?, That is your fear of the dark speaking, and the dark will get you soon enough. No pie in the sky when you die, just never ending dark....
