I think this was a last minute addition due to a local Talk Radio's promotion of Republican's voting for Sharpton voting as a joke. As the article pointed out, drawing Independent voters was supposed to be part of the appeal.

I just find the "Loyalty Oath" humorous. As Glenn Reynolds put it, "What's next? Literacy tests?"
