Washingtonians are generally spooked about the pollution in the Potomac. When I was growing up, few people fished around the city, but some did downstream, where they felt more comfortable with the water volume diluting any possible contamination. Also, few people fished catfish unless they were black, until you got further south, where everyone has a taste for it. There are other rivers that are fished by people in the Metro area, though I do not recall all of their names, and, of course, there is some fishing in the Bay.
