Bloody Zbigniew Brzezinski! He started all the muck by hassling the USSR which was competing for Afghanistan position and to stop Islamic Jihad. Zbigniew was so excited about militarily opposing communism that he didn't realize the greater threat was Islamic Jihad's murderous intention to rule the world. The Twin Towers would be standing if not for Zbigniew. Military mania is not a good thing. If Gorby had been supported, instead of Osama, things would have gone much better.

Also, it's funny watching the wringing of hands and bewildered traditional finding of what went wrong, search for the guilty, punishment of the innocent over "intelligence" on the dreaded WMDs. Saddam said they didn't have any and invited the CIA to check for themselves.

While they were wetting themselves over poor old Saddam, their mates in Pakistan were selling noocular know-how to the Axis of Evil and Libya and Syria. Which isn't really surprising since Pakistan is full of Islamic Jihadistas.

What went wrong in the WMD department in Iraq is that egotistical people got on a roll, heading in a direction they wanted to go and gussied their plans up with something to make what they wanted to do look reasonable. Nobody dared stand in the way. You don't do that when egotistical bullying people get on a roll - they'll steamroll you. You keep your head down, look for a safe pozze, cover your arse, wait for the shit to hit the fan, duck and cover, and hope the storm passes without getting you. Same old thing. Plus ca change. It'll happen again though they'll trot out the cliche "We'll find out what happened and make sure it never happens again".

Also, it's a bit funny that they worry about USA's international credibility being hurt. I suppose with some people USA credibility has been hurt. But their credibility with me remains about at the same level as usual. I have low expectations of them and they meet my expectations.

Here's the Formula Shell story and the steam-roller effect where nobody dare oppose the boss and mob on a roll. Everyone becomes Gung Ho in the search for the WMD. When the hounds are baying and the blood is up, there's no time for naysayers, who risk their lives getting in the way.

King George II was out to get Saddam and nothing was going to deflect him. All he needed was a fig leaf to use as an excuse - some imaginary WMDs were just fine.

The only problem now is a few too many dead Americans being shipped back to base. He needs a fig leaf for that. The current plan seems to be to cut and run [despite his talk of staying the course] about July. I think that deadline will pass and they'll still be attached to the tar baby. "Mission Accomplished" banners need to be out before the election. The average American will be easy to sucker again, so he'll probably accomplish the mission which matters.

PS: King George II having an investigation into how come he went off half-cocked about WMDs is like Arnold Schwarzenegger holding an investigation into how come he did the groping of girls. truthout.org He canceled the investigation ... giggle ... he found himself quite innocent.
