Mary, as the US contemplates losing its preponderance, its people, in general, start measuring the ones who could potentially take its place. Then, from an American perspective, try to minimize the "competitor". It's a way to avoid contemplating the inevitable.

In the future, all countries will be a power nation for 15 minutes. Things are develping so fast that won't allow one country to have the upper hand for too long time.

Western Civilization (it could be a good idea!) was made out of amassing and concentrating all knowledge they could get from wherever it come: Algebra and the algorisms plus Chemistry are Muslim, by the way. But I am not going to enumerate them here.

What is going to happen is that the US, as the knowledge that the US days as Nr.1 are over percolates down to J6P, the US will becomes dangerous. Like the lion which can hunt its prey to eat around his territory. But as it gets weaker and older, it invades other territories for the easy pickings and start attacking human beings.

China has a competitiveness in labor costs, don't have the legal costs and health costs the US does and will keep attracting capital. It's unstopable and will go for the next 10 years until they lose that competitiveness. From there on they will move by inertia, like the US is still keep going by the pos-WWII push.

Only that China's push will not be that strong and wil slow down and will, in its turn, contemplate its return to its natural size.

Don't worry. Have some pose like the British who lost their empire and still think they matter.
